KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Gunung Ledang, it would seem, is climbing even greater heights.

After its win at the recent Asia Pacific Film Festival where Tiara Jacquelina picked up the best actress award for her role in the film, PGL will now be staged at Istana Budaya.

“We are going to bring the magic to the stage as a full-scale musical production,” Tiara announced at a press conference yesterday.

PGL: The Musical is scheduled to run for the whole month of February next year.

Tiara, who is the executive producer of the musical, reprises her role as the Javanese princess Gusti Putri.

Zahim Al-Bakri will direct the production along with Adlin Aman Ramlie, who doubles up as the lyricist for all 18 songs.

Adlin, who reprises his role as Sultan Mahmud Shah, is sorting out the storyline with the movie’s director Saw Teong Hin.

Indonesian actor Alex Komang who played the princess’ brother Adipati will also take on the role.

However, M. Nasir, who played Hang Tuah, will not be part of the stage production due to other commitments.

Auditions are being conducted now for an actor to portray the Malay warrior.

Others involved in the production include eminent Singaporean Dick Lee (composer), Malaysian Idol judge Roslan Aziz (musical director), Raja Malik (set designer) and Pat Ibrahim (choreographer).

PGL the movie cost RM20mil to produce, making it the most expensive in Malaysian film history.

Tiara said the musical would cost less than that amount, but did not reveal the budget.
