KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 20:
The Akademi Fantasia fever is back. And there was excitement when the renowned musician/director/songwriter/producer/singer/actor M. Nasir was named the academy’s new head for the show’s upcoming third season.
He will be leading the academic faculty for this popular made-for-TV School of Performing Arts, introduced to local viewers two years ago.
Other instructors, comprising old and new faces, are Siti Hajar and Adnan Abu Hassan (Vocal), Linda Jasmine and Mohd Fathee Abdullah (Dance and Choreography), Fatimah Abu Bakar (Student Adviser/English Language), Dr Azahari Othman (Motivational) and Nasir’s wife, Marlia Musa (Stage Performance).
Astro’s Malay Programme chief Rozina Aziz told a Press conference today that M. Nasir, whose real name is Mohd Nasir Mohamed, was selected based on his vast experience in the entertainment industry.
He will be responsible for overseeing students’ personal development in areas including performance and discipline during the entire 10-week programme.
This year’s show, for the first time, requires participants to be well-versed in the English language to prepare them to become well-rounded performers.
The third season of the show would be aired in May on Astro Ria (Astro Channel 4), while the finalists will be announced by middle of the year. The winner will be chosen based on viewers’ votes from the final concert scheduled to be held in August.
